When I first became a Christian I was afraid of what I would become. Would I be stuck up and better than everyone else? Would my nose stick up in the air? Would I have to wear a dress with lace? Now that I've been a Christian for many years I can say a resounding, "NO!" Accepting Jesus as your Savior means you have a relationship with Him. He actually doesn't want us to be someone we aren't but to be the people He made us to be. With some cleaned up language and habits. Because I was the only Christian in my family I felt alone. This verse really stood out to me. James 1:26-27 26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this... Read More: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. NKJV What He asks is much simpler than what we imagine at times.

True Elizabeth we do need to let others know the truth about being a Christian.
October 07, 2010 09:34pm
I was so nervous about looking into christianity as well.  Of course once I God got a hold of me all of that went away.  Christians have a really bad rap,  we need to work hard to change that.  But unfortunately like many othe groups only the loud ones are heard, not usually the ones we want representing us.
October 07, 2010 12:25pm
I was amazed that God, the Creator, the Master, would care about widows and orphans.  He doesn't say only the good widows and orphans.  He describes the lonely.

The gospel of a broken heart demands the ministry of bleeding hearts...We can never heal the needs we do not feel. Tearless hearts can never be heralds of the passion. We must pity if we would redeem. We must bleed if we would be ministers of the saving blood.

Sometimes I realize my faith is like crossing a bridge over a deep canyon. If I look down I get dizzy and afraid- but if I look ahead to Jesus, I have confidence and continue on my journey. With everyday comes the potential for all sorts of things to go wrong. I'm good at finding them... But when I focus on the tasks I can do and look to the Lord I am steady. It's encouraging to know that Peter had days like that. Matt 14:29-32 29 So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt... Read More?" 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. NKJV

I read this in my Bible today Matt 5:5 5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. NKJV Matt 5:5 5 "You're blessed when you're content with just who you are — no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought. THE MESSAGE I looked up the word "meek" in the dictionary and it means to endure injury with patience and without resentment. I love the words "be content with just who you are." I sometimes get so busy trying to run ahead of where I am, I forget to simply enjoy or be thankful for where I'm at. It's a true gift to be content and simply appreciate God is in control.

Neither Pilate nor the Jews exercised any real power or authority over Jesus, because: “this Man,” was “delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God.” While He was “nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men,” and they “put Him to death” (Acts 2:23), it was always God’s intention all along that they should do this. If He was in control of that, surely he is in control of every circumstance, emotion, etc., that effects us at every moment..
